Overview

This woman's only African Safari was such a life changing experience for our ladies this past September; we've decided to repeat it for 2012. Perfect for our adventurous women who want awe-inspiring game drives, unparalleled wildlife and enchanting landscapes.

Savour Kenya as we explore some of the country's best game parks and visit with local tribes and women with our private guide. Truly a trip of contrasts, from the desert-scape of Samburu National Park to the hills and ranges of Laikipia to the savannah of Masai Mara, this trip showcases the extremes of Kenya.

Enjoy sightseeing at the Elephant Orphanage, Karen Blixen Museum and Giraffe Manor. Drive through the hills and valleys, past the foothills of Mt Kenya, to Samburu. Photography lovers will revel in the stark lighting and great wildlife opportunities in Samburu as we explore Kenya's hot arid desert. Visit a local women's cooperative in Nanyuki. Enjoy a luxury tented safari experience at Sweetwaters camp in Laikipia, where you can visit Kenya's only chimpanzee sanctuary and enjoy a game drive in their private reserve. Fly over the Great Rift Valley to the wilds of Masai Mara, the world's best game park. The small size of the park and ability to go off-road allows us to see some of the best game in East Africa. Spend three days game viewing and finish with time to volunteer, meet, and work with people on the ground, giving back to the community. Fly back to Nairobi to the women's Kazuri Bead Factory for some final souvenir shopping before returning home from this unforgettable safari.

The tour includes internal flights, luxury accommodations, featuring three very different game viewing experiences, thousands of animals and camaraderie with fellow Broad Horizon travellers. This private guided tour is sure to be a life changing experience - one that will touch your soul.

KENYA
Kenya is the regional hub for the quintessential safari experience, featuring top game parks of Masai Mara, Samburu, Amboseli, and the beaches of Mombasa and Lamu. The country has the most modern infrastructure in the region and excellent flight connections to other countries in Africa. The "Big Five" animals of Africa can also be found in Kenya: the lion, leopard, buffalo, rhinoceros and elephant. It is also famous for the annual migration, when millions of wildebeest head north to find fresh grass during the dry season. The migration varies yearly based on the rains, but tends to peak between mid-July to mid-September (in other months the migration moves around the Serengeti park in Tanzania).

NAIROBI
Dubbed the “Safari Capital of the World” cool, clear and cosmopolitan Nairobi is the natural departure point for most safari itineraries. A city of contrasts, it is simultaneously the largest, the youngest, the most modern, the highest (1700m) and the fastest growing city in East Africa. High-altitude Nairobi enjoys a pleasant tropical climate all year round. There are ATMs and banks to stock up on cash, great restaurants, and malls where you can purchase any forgotten items.

SAMBURU
The Samburu National Reserve is located on the banks of the Ewaso Ng'iro River in Kenya; on the other side of the river is the Buffalo Springs National Reserve in Northern Kenya. It is 165 km˛ in size and 350 kilometers from Nairobi. Samburu is distinctive for its arid plains and herds of animals drawn to the river and water holes. Photographers love this park for its stark lighting and contrasts. In the arid North of Kenya, water means life. The river draws wildlife in great numbers to its banks, providing high quality game viewing.

LAIKIPIA
Laikipia District is located on the Equator in the central region of the country. The district has two major urban centres: Nanyuki to the southeast and Nyahururu to the southwest. Its capital is the town of Nanyuki. Centered near the original Laikipia National Reserve, this area has become a sanctuary for Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, and a wealth of plains game, including many endemic Northern species. Laikipia has become a focus for many conservation efforts.

MASAI MARA
Masai Mara is the northernmost portion of the larger Serengeti ecosystem and features the best game viewing in the region. The small size funnels animals into a tight space, and park rules allow for off-road driving which means that guests can venture into plains covered with hundreds or even thousands of animals. Take an optional hot air balloon ride over the plains, with the opportunity for amazing pictures of the animal herds below.
