Itinerary

Day 1 - Monday, April 5th Lima
Depart on Air Canada direct from Toronto to Lima, Peru. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to the hotel for overnight accommodations at the Casa Andina Private Collection or similar.

Day 2 - Tuesday, April 6th Lima
Today is our day to explore the colonial city of Lima. After leisure time in the morning, we have an exciting culinary tour planned. Visit the market to learn about the local fruits, vegetables and fish before returning to the restaurant for Peruvian cooking demonstrations. We'll then enjoy taste testing and a typical Peruvian lunch before returning to our hotel. Group dinner planned for the evening. Casa Andina Private Collection or similar. (B,L,D)

Day 3 - 4 - Wednesday, Apr 7- Thursday, April 8th Amazon Rainforest
Transfer to the airport after breakfast and take a morning flight to Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the Amazon. Take a motorized canoe up the Tambopata River to our rainforest lodge. Explore the rainforest by foot and dugout canoe with our expert local guides. The Amazon presents excellent wildlife-spotting opportunities. Group meals throughout our stay in the rainforest. Day 5 - 7 - Friday, April Apr 9th - Sunday, April 11th Cusco
Travel out of the jungle by boat before flying to Cusco, high in the Andes mountains. On Day 6, join a guided tour of the city to learn about its ancient, fascinating history—Cusco is the oldest continually inhabited city on the continent. Free time on Day 7 to explore the city and visit its many local archaeological sites. Group dinners planned for the evenings. Casa Andina Private Collection or similar. (3B,3D)

Day 8 - Monday, April 12th Ollantaytambo
Embark on a journey through the Inca's Sacred Valley, including visits to the Inca ruins of Pisac and Ollantaytambo. Today you will visit the Women's Weaving Project and have a chance to participate with the local women in a weaving workshop. Group dinner in the evening. Hotel San Augustin Recoleta or similar. Day 9 - Tuesday, April 13th Aguas Calientes
Take a morning train through the Urubamba Valley to Aguas Calientes, at the foot of Machu Picchu. Enjoy a buffet dinner and show tonight. Machu Picchu Hatuchay Tower Hotel or similar. (B,D)

Day 10 - Wednesday, April 14th Machu Picchu / Cusco
Continue on the next morning for a guided tour of the ruins of the 'Lost City' of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is both the best and the least known of the Inca ruins. It is not mentioned in any of the chronicles of the Spanish conquistadors and archaeologists today can do no more than speculate on its function. The local Quechua farmers in the area knew of Machu Picchu for centuries, but it was not until an 11-year-old boy led the American historian Hiram Bingham (who was in search of Vilcabamba) to the site on July 24, 1911, that the rest of the world became aware of its existence. Return to Cusco by train in the afternoon. Group dinner and overnight in Cusco. Casa Andina Private Collection or similar. (B,D)

Day 11 - Thursday, April 15th Cusco
Today is a day at leisure to explore some of Cusco's many museums and churches built on Inca ruins. Or, volunteer at the “House of the People of the Sun” community project where you can assist local, underprivileged children with homework, a warm meal, jewelry making, leather working, cooking, music and English. Enjoy a group dinner and show this evening. Casa Andina Private Collection or similar. (B,D)

Day 12 - 13 - Friday, April 16th - Saturday, April 17th Puno / Lake Titicaca
Enjoy spectacular views of the countryside on this full day of travel through the Andes from Cusco to Puno. Take a boat ride across Lake Titicaca the next morning to visit the floating reed islands of the Uros people. Visit various islands and enjoy meeting the friendly local villagers. Group dinners planned for the evenings. Casa Andina Private Collection or similar. (2B,2D)

Day 14 - Sunday, April 18th Lima
We have a short drive to Juliaca before flying to Lima to enjoy one last night in the City of Kings. Enjoy a group farewell dinner as we reminisce about the memories of our trip through Peru! Casa Andina Private Collection or similar. (B,D)

Day 15 - Monday, April 19th Depart Lima
Today is a day at leisure in Lima to see the sites and pick up some last minute souvenirs or enjoy a leisure lunch of Peruvian cuisine. Our hotel is in the Miraflores area, which is Lima's tourist epicenter and home to the best restaurants, shopping and hotels so there will be plenty of opportunities for you within walking distance, or consider a short taxi ride to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Colonial Lima. Transfer to the airport in the late afternoon for our direct, overnight flight from Lima to Toronto with arrival in Toronto the morning of Tuesday, April 20th. (B)
